CLOWN STATE WITH TRYGVE WAKENSHAW
MONDAYS 18:10 - 19:40
WEEKLY CLOWN COURSE
A weekly evening of contemporary clown practice, play, and joyful stupidity.
These classes are about being silly, getting lost, failing in public, and discovering why that’s often when things get funny. We’ll work with playfulness, vulnerability, optimism, and pleasure — no red noses, no pressure to be clever, just showing up and seeing what happens.
WHAT WE PRACTICE
• Playing freely and following impulse
• Failing comfortably (and repeatedly)
• Finding laughter through honesty rather than jokes
• Staying present when you’re confused or “doing it wrong”
• Enjoying being seen without knowing what you’re doing
• Trusting pleasure, optimism, and simplicity
• Building a shared language and community through consistent practice.
The New Zealand born Trygve (pronounced Trig-vee ) is a physical comedy performer who studied at Ecole Philippe Gaulier, the prestigious Paris clown school with alumni including Sasha Baron-Cohen and Emma Thompson. Wakenshaw's unique style combines mime, physical theater and cheeky idiocy - he is mad, risqué and uniquely eccentric. The critically acclaimed, award-winning clown presents his beautifully strange stream-of-consciousness idiocy in three different shows. His hilarious and fun hit physical comedies SQUIDBOY, KRAKEN, and NAUTILUS have been known to sell out at festivals around the world. He is also touring is his award winning DIFFERENT PARTY with best friend and collaborator Barnie Duncan.
Trygve is currently touring his latest show SILLY LITTLE THINGS, as well as NAUTILUS, and his kids show with Toboso Theatre MONSTERRR.
