FUNDAMENTALS OF ACTING
Every Monday at 19:45-21:15 for 6 weeks
GRADUATION SHOWCASE - Sunday 18th October
A new round of Fundamentals of Acting: Beginners starts this September at Studio 32.
In this six week introductory course we'll show you the basic ground work of stage acting skills, leading up to a show case of a 1-2 minute performance, to put into practice what you learn.
Through relaxation, dynamic movement, and voice exercises, you'll find confidence on stage and learn to use your body, in a supportive and fun environment. We'll also use imagination exercises to better ready ourselves for character work.
We'll look at the basis of script analysis. How we can peek into what the characters drives and needs are, and how we can work with our own emotions to help make the character our own, and remove some of the mythos around this process.
We'll also examine the practical elements of stage acting, lighting, where to stand, entrances and exits, how the stage works. So that you gain a better understanding of the mechanisms of stage work.
Led by professional actor, Michael Pitthan, this course is designed to break down into small pieces, the elements of acting in a way that feel accessible, and help build confidence on stage and in life.
Weeks 1 – 3: Through structured games and excercises, Practical, physical and emotional techniques will be covered. These will be layered in a way that builds for the next step and performance.
Weeks 4 – 6: A continuation of warm up and physical/voice excercises and a closer examination and rehearsal of texts.
This basic course is perfect for anyone who would like to explore not only the world of acting, but also more about their own body and voice in a public space.
Following in October, the Beginner/Intermediate 8 week course will allow students to explore elements and texts more deeply.
Your Acting Coach: Michael Pitthan
Michael is a seasoned working professional actor, with a career spanning over 20 years on stage, in front of the camera and behind a microphone.
Born in Germany and raised in the U.K. now living in the Czech Republic, he realised at a young age he wanted to be an actor.
With a background in Commedia dell'Arte, masked theatre, playing to audiences of all ages, he understands the nuance of stage play and audience interaction. With the work often being devised and written by the company, the work naturally led Michael towards improvisation which he has slowly crafted over the last 12 years.
After moving to Prague, he found himself in a different market, which allowed him expand into camera, voice and motion capture work. Exploring the differences and similarities between these mediums and stage, has been an interesting, sometimes difficult journey, and with 30 plus film and television credits and three international computer games under his belt, a fruitful one too.
Michael likes to tell stories and work out why characters do what they do. The experience he has gained hands on: from writing, set building, touring; to live, direct improvisation and the technicalities of camera and microphone have developed an understanding of what makes characters tick, how to engage physically, vocally and emotionally, and how the actor can best serve the role.
